Weight Loss vs Health Gain

Why not accomplish BOTH, sustainably?

Ever hear about the Jelly Bean Diet? It is what you think!

I had a client come into my office after having been on this diet for nearly a month…

She was a jittery, nervous, anxious mess with skin outbreaks, hair and nail breakage, poor sleep, roller-coaster-like emotions, and numerous gut complaints.

But she’d lost weight.

At quite a cost to her general health and well-being!

Have you ever wondered WHY there are so many diets from which to choose?

Have you ever lost weight but felt miserable—like the gal eating jelly beans to lose weight?

Have you ever gotten irritated at the “experts” for so vehemently disagreeing over what the “right” mix of fats, carbohydrates and proteins should be according to their “one-size-fits-all” approach?

Even when “studies show….”?

I have. And so have many of my patients and clients.

Truly, if there were only one “right” way to eat, we’d all be healthy and at ideal body weight! The closest I’ve found to “one” “right” way is eating REAL.

After that, the “diet” is determined according to the person in front of me.

An Individualized Eating Plan is an option I offer my patients/clients.

Now, before you all start filling my in-box with requests for your own personalized eating plans, you need to understand a few things:

“Simple” and “Easy” are NOT the same thing! Individualized Eating Plans can waaaaay simplify your life, but they can be really difficult to implement.

Why? Because we’re all addicts to our particular “comforts”, including food. We’ve forgotten how to eat to live and have habits built around how we live to eat. Oof. That’s tough stuff to correct!

I STRONGLY recommend that you start with the basics (duh!) and eat REAL. Then, when you’re ready for the next phase to better your health…, then jam my in-box full of requests. 😉

If it’s taken you a lifetime to get yourself into poor health, it’ll also take time (not another lifetime) to REVERSE all that.

Have you ever run out of gas while driving? I have. On my motorcycle, no less. Fortunately, even when the engine stopped, there was some forward momentum continuing—enough to get my bike across 4 lanes of traffic and in a safe place to park.

Disease is like that forward momentum: even when you’ve stopped eating the food that was the wrong fuel for your personal engine, there’s still some disease process hanging on. But it’ll stop!

Give your body the fuel (food) it needs to run brilliantly well, and it will.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if weed-eater fuel were put into a NASA rocket? Or diesel fuel in a gas-powered car? Or jet fuel into a beautiful British motorcycle?

Specific machines require their specific fuel.

YOU are so much more than a machine! You still require the fuel that is suited for you.

This is why the “experts” are right, even when they are vastly different.

Vegetarianism IS the BEST way to eat… for SOME people. Others might lose weight eating this way for a while, but feel rather miserable over time.

Paleo IS the BEST way to eat… for SOME people. Others might lose weight eating this way for a while, but feel rather miserable over time.

The Jelly Bean Diet has never been a good idea. Still, you could lose weight initially.

ANY drastic change in eating can cause weight loss in the early stages. But you’ve got to think about the long term, ‘cause you want to keep eating, right? AND feel GOOD, rather than miserable over time.

So. Summary:

Step 1: Stop poisoning your system with “food stuffs” when you could just as easily choose real food, organically grown, locally, in season. (Take the bad stuff out.)

Step 2: Choose the real food that is organically grown, locally, in season. (Put the good stuff in.)

Step 3: Choose the real food that is organically grown, locally, in season that is specific for YOU! (Individualized Eating Plan. Your specific fuel for your amazing body that is so much more than a machine.)

Step 4: Repeat the above steps with all the other things you consume: drink (we’ll talk about water soon), books, movies, magazine, music, thoughts, conversations, beliefs....

Wishing you vibrantly WELL,

Christie Fleetwood, ND, RPh, VNMI
