Black Box Warnings are the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) strongest, most serious medication warning. It’s literally in a black box, printed in the upper left hand corner of the package insert, folded up and placed inside the box with the stock bottle of medication.
So who sees it? Not the consumer!
In a “forward thinking” pharmacy, the staff will recycle that insert along with the rest of the packaging when the bottle gets placed on the pharmacy shelf. When it comes time to fill your prescription, those pills get counted out and placed in a smaller bottle with a separate label with your name and instructions for use. No Black Box Warning shows up on that label.
If you’re getting a drug that’s new on the market (for example, the anti-diabetic medication Invokana), you could look up the brand name on your favorite internet browser. Click on the manufacturer’s ad—usually the first offering on the search page. The Black Box Warning *should* come up at the bottom of the screen.
If you’re getting an older drug that has a generic equivalent, you can look up the generic name online, select the information option attached to Drugs.com, click on the Professional tab, and scroll until you see a black box. Or not. Not every drug has a Black Box Warning.
As I write the “Diseases of the Drugs” booklets, I’ll let you know which drugs “push” people into various disease states, what next “disease” you can look forward to experiencing once you’re prescribed a medication to manage the first disease, and which ones have Black Box Warnings. I’ll simplify the medical jargon so it’s understandable.
In the meantime, I’ll be getting online disease reversal courses ready just as soon as possible—even before their associated diseases of the drugs booklets are available. Why? Because I’m as desperate to get this information out there as the people suffering from lifestyle diseases are to learn how to live differently to reverse their disease!
THAT’S good stuff!
You don’t have to be afraid of the scary stuff in black boxes when you’re changing your life and reversing the disease, getting so stinkin’ healthy that the prescription medications need to be reduced then discontinued. It's not impossible - it is very doable. And you have the power inside yourself; I'm a guide to get you there.
TRANSFORM YOUR SELF. Your health will come along for the ride.
Wishing you WELLness,
